The Queensland-compliant standard for all properties. Connected to your home’s 240V electrical supply with battery backup. When one alarm detects smoke, every alarm in the home activates simultaneously. This is the installation we recommend for all Queensland residential properties.
- 10-Year Lithium Battery Photoelectric Alarms
In certain situations — particularly where hardwiring is not practical — 10-year sealed lithium battery photoelectric alarms are an acceptable alternative under Queensland legislation. We’ll advise whether this applies to your property.
- Smart Interconnected Smoke Alarms
Smart smoke alarms connect to your home network and send alerts to your smartphone when triggered — useful for investment properties or holiday homes you need to monitor remotely. We supply and install leading smart alarm brands.
Queensland Smoke Alarm Laws — What You Need to Know
As of 1 January 2022, all Queensland homes must comply with the new smoke alarm legislation. Key requirements include:
- Interconnected smoke alarms — when one activates, all sound
- Photoelectric type alarms only (ionisation alarms are no longer compliant)
- Hardwired with battery backup (or 10-year lithium battery alarms in some circumstances)
- Required in every bedroom
- Required in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the dwelling
- Required in each storey of the home
For rental properties — compliance was required from 1 January 2022. For all other properties — compliance is required at the point of sale or renovation from 1 January 2027. Don’t wait — get compliant now.
Queensland Smoke Alarm Placement Requirements
- In every bedroom
- In hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the dwelling
- On each storey of the home, including basement levels
- If there is no hallway between bedrooms and other areas of the dwelling, in the area most likely to be travelled to exit
All alarms must be interconnected — when one activates, they all activate. All alarms must be photoelectric type (not ionisation). Hardwired alarms require a 240V connection with battery backup.
